Gotcha is one of the cool math games that we use at teachwithgames.com to help students memorize their multiplication tables (and other sequences). It is similar to Solitaire, just with friends. I made a video to show how to play if you find the included rules unclear.

Teachwith games.com now has over 100 kids learning games for you to use to help your student memorize part of the vast amount of information that is required in our world today.

As soon as your student can recognize counting and writing by tens, they are ready for this game (first grade A Beka curriculum). This game uses money to introduce the idea of sets or multiplication. Counting By Tens using Dimes will help your student enjoy practicing this concept. Students should read the card (or say what it represents) as they play it.

Two card options are available, one with labels (ie ‘one dime = 10 cents’) and one with coins only.

All of the card games on the teachwithgames.com website use modified, old favorite card game rules. Like the popular game ‘Skip-bo’, is modified Solitaire (with friends), this Gotcha game is also. Placing cards in a sequence, a simple but very entertaining activity.

This game uses the general rules of “Old Maid,” only the “Family Man” is the winner. I just twisted the rules to make this game a bit more ‘family friendly’ ;)

This 6 and 7 Multiplication Clothespin Activity is shaped like a butterfly. There are two activity boards to choose from, color is the only difference.

Students clip the answers to the board to complete the activity. The answer page can be printed on address labels and stuck to clothespins or you could print them on paper and use clothespins or paperclips to attach them to the activity board.

Ideas for use:

  1. Introduce the 6 and 7 multiplication family with the full question and answer.
  2. Have the student replace questions with just the answers as they memorize the problems.
  3. Have the student use a stopwatch and practice to lower their time.
  4. Write the answers on the back to make this activity self- correcting.

Could my site be added to your list of resources? If you have a website or blog, I have a page of images and text to be used for this purpose.

Gotcha is played like Solitaire with friends. This takes a highly addictive game and makes it educational and more fun. Is that a dream for an educator?

So far, I have 2, 3, 6, and 7’s in this Gotcha Card game. The 3’s made it into the Top Ten Games so you must be a member to download that one. Membership is free, for more information click here.

This game has the same spinner and game board as the Christmas Division Board Game with a color change, but I added cards that practice multiplication. Players move the number of spaces indicated by the multiplicand, which is the first number in the equation. For example, in ‘7 X 9 = 63,’ the multiplicand is ‘7.’

This PDF has the rules and all the parts to play ‘Dog’. Additional help for playing ‘Dog,’ is accessible under ‘GAME HELP’ on the top menu bar.

I put an ‘Old Maid’ card in the file so you could play Old Maid if you prefer. The rules for Old Maid are available in the ‘Game Rules’ Category if you need them. Remove the ‘Crazy 8′ cards for an Old Maid Game.

Old Maid only requires one set of cards for two players

Dog requires two sets for each player. (or more shuffling)
